Portrait of "Go-un" Choi Chi-won
in the Cheongdo-gun County
Haknam Seowon
The Haknam Seowon Neo-Confucian Academy rests in a geomantically favorable site in Natsil
Village of Gaknam-myeon District, Cheongdo-gun County, North Gyeongsang Province.

This well-known portrait of the great scholar, official, Buddhist and Daoist "Go-un" Choi Chi-won
was enshrined within Mt. Gaya-san Haein-sa Temple after it was painted sometime around 1700.
It was transferred to the rebuilt Gyedong-sa Shrine of Haknam Seowon in 1917, reportedly in
fear of "looting" by Japanese colonial authorities (this may mean, being removed to a museum),
according to a decision made by the Gyeongju Choi Clan with the abbot of Haein-sa.
